Jacob Stage
Copenhagen. Theater, dance, film, and photography—for Jacob Stage, these aren’t separate worlds, but a single craft.
Originally at home as a theater director and choreographer, Jacob Stage has evolved over the years into a multi-award-winning photographer—with a perspective shaped by 25 years of stage experience. It is precisely this background that gives his images a dramatic, powerful, and simultaneously poetic visual language that leaves classic event and portrait photography far behind.
With his hybrid theater company, The Peoples Entertainment Group, he was honored with the prestigious Danish theater award Reumert in 2016, and the critics’ prize The Theatre Cat in 2015. For years, he has also been part of the Roskilde Festival media team and collaborates with numerous theaters as a photo and video artist.
What drives him: the encounter itself. Jacob Stage sees every shoot as a relaxed, open moment—not as mere documentation, but as its own small production.
It is exactly this attitude that makes him a natural part of AVANTGARDISTA: someone who doesn’t think of stage, movement, and image as separate, but as a whole.
