Fernando Berlin
For Fernando Berlin, leather isn’t just a material choice; it’s a statement. Behind the brand is a man whose real name is Ferdinand Tiffert – but over the years, he himself became his brand name.
Born amidst coal and steel in Duisburg, raised on the left bank of the Lower Rhine, he moved to Berlin in 2003. After studying humanities, he founded his own brand in 2009: boots, gloves, accessories – and now his own leather couture, crafted in a small manufactory in Portugal.
Whether delicate lambskin or firm, polished cowhide: for Fernando Berlin, material is always the foundation of the design, never merely a means to an end. His boots, gloves, and couture pieces have one thing in common – they extend arms, legs, and necks. Those who wear Fernando command respect.
Behind this is a clear philosophy: leather isn’t bought for a single evening, but for years of enjoyment. His designs are timeless and sustainably conceived, always combinable in new ways, and even after years, they feel as if they’ve just been unboxed.
“Fashion means joy of life. It’s not essential for survival, but without it, survival wouldn’t be necessary.”
He shares a long history with AVANTGARDISTA: Fernando Berlin was present at the very first edition and has been returning ever since. His reason: here, there’s nothing softened or imitative – only true avant-garde that is currently writing its own history.
